CVC rules If a syllable is CVC, the vowel is usually short.
When adding a suffix beginning with a vowel, the second C must be doubled: red - redder; swim - swimming.

CV If a syllable has this format, the vowel is usually long. That is why the animal "tiger" is spelled with only one "g" - ti-ger, and rabbit, needs 2 "b's" - rab-bit. Quiz
I and E in a word. "I" before "e," Except after "c," Or when sounded like "a," As in "neighbor" and "weigh." (relieve, achieve, receive)
But there are exceptions: weird, seize, seizure, leisure....
